Project beneficiaries
The scholarship programme targets disadvantaged youths both boys and girls and Persons with Disabilities. It will serve persons of all forms of religion, culture, ethnic group, social status and gender in the targeted project areas of intervention. Under the effort for empowering vulnerable persons with hands on skills, the project will only focus on those persons that are actively in search of training opportunities and are not able to enroll due to financial challenges. However, the identified students should be able to make a contribution to the training through payment of non-tuition fees (other requirements) as per the college payment structure.
The project seeks to reach out to approximately 60 students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are in urgent need of vocational skills training and are limited by the cost of education. The families of the vocational skills scholarship programme beneficiaries will benefit indirectly from the project for they will be able to focus on other remaining children in the family but also benefiting from the programme graduates will be able to get gainful employment after the project.
The number of scholarship beneficiaries will depend on the existence of sponsors and the availability of funds for the scholarship programme.
Anticipated scholarship programme outcomes
By providing scholarships, RVC creates an opportunity of students from disadvantaged families to: attain a skill for self sustainanence, reduce the high school dropout rate as well as reduce the pressure on poor rural families, hence enabling parents to focus on other remaining children. Vocational skills training will enhance the employability of the trained students hence strengthening economic independence.
The Rwenzori Vocational skills training scholarship does not cater for all training costs of the students. For purpose of commitment to the training, the students must pay for non-tuition fees; application fees, costs of training materials and examination fees as shall be determined by the college from time to time.
It is anticipated that this scholarship programme will increase the enrollment of students at the college and as a result the college will be in a better position to adequately enumerate staff, improve the training infrastructure (equipments and workshops) and support the desired long term investments.
The scholarship will give a competitive advantage over other institutions in the Kasese and the region at large
